Given that we have been enduring the zombie apocalypse for a few years, we have abandoned hope religiously.  Instead, the citizens of Home of the Brains believe, first and foremost, in community.  We strive to help each other out and to promote teamwork.  This entails standing behind the decisions of the competent security council and the leading council, as we have hope that they will be able to take care of us.  It also includes letting go of whatever pity we have for the zombies (namely, the ones we recognize from life before the zombie apocalypse), because we don't want to risk the survival of the community.  We want to try to put the good of the community before our feelings.

We also discussed our duty to train our children so that they can survive life in the zombie apocalypse, and utilizing whatever practical skills are available in our citizenry (e.g. farming) - every position is important.
